Paintings Marlow’s Bridge by Stanley Port
Acrylics on boards various sizes as indicated
Living in Marlow, it is inevitable that I have several times painted the scene showing the suspension bridge over the River Thames, flanked by the All Souls Church on the left bank.
The bridge connects Marlow High Street with the village of Bisham in Berkshire. It was opened in 1832, was designed by William Tierney Clark, and is currently a Grade 1 listed building.
There has been a timber bridge here since around 1530 and the current bridge replaced another timber structure. The Szechenyi Chain Bridge over the River Danuibe in Budapest was also designed by Clark and is a bigger version of this Marlow one.
The current bridge has a weight restriction of 3 tonne and is only used by foot and local road traffic.
The first painting shown above is available for purchase. It is on board, 30 x 40 cm and is priced unframed at £200. if you are interested in this painting, please click CONTACT to easily reach me.
