Hammersmith Bridge in London Painting by Stanley Port
Acrylics on canvas: 35 x 45 cm
This painting was commissioned from Stanley Port
Hammersmith Bridge is a suspension bridge in London with a rich history:
The first bridge at this location opened in 1827 and was the first suspension bridge to cross the Thames. It was designed by William Clarke and was the world’s longest suspension crossing at the time.
The current bridge was designed by Sir Joseph Bazalgette and opened in 1887. It was built on the foundations of the earlier toll bridge. The bridge is currently closed to all motor traffic, but open to pedestrians, cyclists and river traffic, pending extensive structural repairs that are needed.
This painting was commissioned by a person who loves the view and happened to observe a seal swimming in the river when rowing near the bridge.
