West Highlands seascape painting: I call this painting “Incoming Tide”. I hope you agree this scene is stunning. The location is a remote coast in the far north of Scotland. In contrast with most of my work, I have never been to this location. This painting is not based on my own sketches or photos. Instead, a great photo was taken by Kenny Block @kennyblock85, photographer, who gave me permission to turn it into a painting. My job as a painter was to try to add depth to the inevitable 2-D medium, to modify colours and create detail in the darks and highlights that photos cannot reach; also to add texture. It was fun and a challenge.
